Clinical Study: Reducing Heavy Menstrual Bleeding
OhmBody's lead clinical evidence is a peer-reviewed pilot study, published in Frontiers in Medicine (2025), testing transcutaneous auricular neurostimulation (tAN) for heavy menstrual bleeding.
Part of the OhmBody evidence hub.
What the study did
In an at-home study, participants used the device for two hours a day during menstruation. Menstrual blood loss was measured with the Pictorial Blood Assessment Chart (PBAC), a validated tool, against each participant's own baseline.
What it found
Across a single treatment cycle, the study reported:
-
55% reduction in menstrual blood loss
-
20% shorter period duration
-
47% reduction in menstrual discomfort
-
45% reduction in gastrointestinal discomfort
What comes next
This was a pilot measuring a single treatment cycle, and a larger pivotal clinical study is now underway to test the effect under controlled conditions.
